Through effort and struggle, he gradually took on new, more honorable roles—first as a network technician, then as the steadfast guardian of the digital realms of a powerful airline, watching day and night so that no enemy, no matter how small, could disrupt the order and security of this electronic fortress.

I got into contact with Centurion through the trade school TACT (Teaching the Autism Community Trades) and became an analyst soon after. Centurion’s offered me a lot of opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise, and I’m glad I can get experience and help the community at the same time as a Tier 2 Team Leader! Currently, I’m also setting up a phishing awareness training program that our student analysts can get involved in. In my free time, I like to read, write, study history, and play tabletop RPGs.
Monica Ball is a Computer Science major at MSU Denver. She is the Tier Two Team Lead for Team Flagstaff and Team Eolus, as well as the author of the Current Events and Featured Exploit sections of Ones & Zeros. Her interest in Cybersecurity stems from seeing how networks fit together and the ways they- and software- can be leveraged to achieve interesting and sometimes unexpected ends.
I am graduating in December with a degree in cybersecurity and am looking forward to being an alumnus. Through the Cybersecurity Center, I have obtained multiple certifications in IT and security. I was a member of the first cohort of what is now Project Centurion, and that experience led to two part-time job offers, all well before graduation. I am thankful for the opportunities offered to me by The Center and am excited to contribute to its continued development and its impact on the community. When not working or studying, I enjoy things that don’t involve screens, such as camping, reading, and martial arts, as well as things that do, like video games and streaming TV.
Technology has always come easily to me ever since I was young. Whether it was fixing VCRs or learning about scripts and setting up my very own server at home, I have always enjoyed working with technology. That passion evolved after being exposed to the concept of Cybersecurity at Warren Tech, where I learned just what I wanted to do with my future. I then attended MSU Denver, taking courses to get my Bachelor’s in Cybersecurity. This is where I learned that the world of IT, technology, and cyber is ever-evolving; with new developments and challenges around every corner. Because of this, I pride myself on my ability to pick things up and adapt quickly; all the while eagerly taking any chance at tackling the new and unknown.
